I'm here!

No, I did not die in the hospital! I'm alive and well and have spent the past two weeks catching up at school and being without a computer at home. (The power cord decided to put on a fireworks display last Saturday night... fun!)

I have six exams this coming week, with five of them being before noon on Wednesday. It is not easy to catch up on six or seven weeks' worth of missed work so quickly!

I'm going to have my hair cut tomorrow morning, and then I'm going to have pictures taken for my CV (yes, you have to put your picture on your CV in Switzerland and France and many other places in Europe, too).

Wish me luck...

Hospital funny

Being in the hospital is not a very funny experience. In fact, it's one I'd like to avoid repeating at all costs. But breakfast provided the opportunity for a rather humorous encounter, given that it's been so long since I've eaten breakfast outside of my home that I've forgotten a lot of the cultural expectations here. Here's how my breakfast encounter with the nurse went:

Nurse: Coffee or tea?
Me: Neither, thanks.
Nurse: Don't you want to eat breakfast, Mademoiselle?
Me: Of course I do.
Nurse: Well, then, coffee or tea?
Me: I don't drink coffee or tea. Usually I just have water with breakfast.
Nurse: Well, then, you'll have hot chocolate.
Me: Oh. Okay. That'll be fine. Thanks.

Lucky for me, I love hot chocolate and had simply forgotten that it is a rather banal thing to order with breakfast, unlike in Texas.

Hold my hand?

I had a lumbar puncture done today in the hospital. Now I don't feel so great.

Oh, dear.

Saw this in a job ad today:

"Writing skills in English are recommanded."
